Hi, I'm Phala Tracy, composer of Songs for Sight Reading Volumes 1 - 4
I developed this curriculum over the course of about 17 years. It was a labor of love. I am excited to share it with you!
I teach Suzuki harp and music theory at Studio Fidicina in South Minneapolis and I am also adjunct professor of harp at Gustavus Adolphus college in St. Peter, MN. I am a registered Suzuki harp teacher trainer.
I play and sing with Follow the Firefly and Matt Wilson and His Orchestra and I am an active arranger, composer, improviser and performer in the Twin Cities.

Phala’s beginning music reading books fill a huge gap that has always existed for harp students. After they know basic pitches and rhythms, there has been nothing available for students to gradually work into being proficient readers. So I am very excited that she has written these 4 volumes and made them available to all beginning readers! I can’t wait to use them with my students.

As a student of the Suzuki method, I had always learned my music aurally, and was apprehensive about the day when I would have to face the unfamiliar language of note heads and ledger lines, especially with no prior experience reading music. Phala Tracy’s “Songs for Sight-Reading” provided the perfect stepping-stone! Each volume contains pieces with a wide range of difficulty, introducing students to the world of sight-reading with various time signatures, rhythmic values, tempi, and dynamics.
Whether you are new to the world of sight-reading or want to gain more experience, “Songs for Sight-Reading” not only helped me learn how to read music, but helped build my confidence when it comes to sitting behind the harp and assessing unfamiliar music at first glance.
